Catholic Church Jhang Pakistan ?
Jhang(Pakistan) is a predominantly Muslim area. The mission in this area started in the thirties. A visiting priest used to visit the few scattered families occasionally.
In 1956, a group of missionary sisters started a school at the request of well to do Hindus who wished that good education be imparted on their children. A small house was also built for a visiting priest.
After partition many Christian families moved to the city in search for jobs and, being illiterate, they were given sanitary work of the government buildings and institutions. Soon after, others who were living in small slums scattered in the city, joined them.
In 1970,in order to provide a more decent living place to these families, the diocese of Faislabad bought a piece of land and a colony was established for these sanitary workers. It is now called a Christian Colony.At present we have 300 families living in this colony.They mainly continue the saintary work started by their grand fathers.
Very few got education and move out for a better job.
Education+St.Martin Boys Hostel +Youth Group+Health of Community
As years passed awareness increased in the community and the parents felt the need of a proper school for their children.
The primary school run by the diocese was soon up graded to middle level and registered with the government as St.Martin middle school. The plan is to upgrade up to high school, in order to provide education also to the children of the families living scattered in the district.
My predecessor in 1989 built a St.Martin Hostel for boys with the help of donor agency named Misereor.At present we have 50 children in our hostel. They come from very poor families to come here to study in our hostel.Most of them are orphan.
Church gives them residence,meal,tution,
trainings, entertainment and other facilities.
Over the last few decades, our Youth group has been a vibrant dynamic and contemporary catholic presence in our and other parishes, campuses, professional backgrounds and varied life situations through a vast spectrum of talents and ministries. The ccjpk(catholic church jhang pakistan) youth group volunteership Training has equipped over 200 young persons in the past few years.
The health situation of this community is worrying their leaders.Chest infectionand t.b are wide spread,morality rate of children is very high.anemia and skin diseases very common.
About Women-Knitting+Sewing Center and targets
For girls,our knitting and sewing centres are going well .
We need to give much more emphases to the education of girls by actively encouraging their parents to send them to literacy centers and by giving them financial and other support to attend secondary schools.
With this recommendation in mind the catholic church jhang parish has sanctioned this area as the basis for extending the work of this noble service .In this education field our church intend to help at least a number of 50girls locations admitting them in two primary schools to be opened in 2002 at Jhang's slum areas.
